The Benefits of Clothing Printing

The results from printing onto a garment instead of stitching are clearly different, but there are cases when we would recommend printing over embroidery or when printing is the only solution to accurately reproduce your design onto fabric. The benefits are:

  • Printing doesn't compromise any water repellent properties of the material. As soon as you stitch through a piece of material, it creates a small hole in it. If you require your design on a waterproof garment, we would usually recommend printing onto it.
  • If your logo or design features a large number of colours, then the only way to accurately reproduce your image may be to print it.
  • If a large design featured on your garment is required, then printing is a must as there is a limit on the size of design that can be created by the embroidery machine

If you're still unsure on whether your design should be printed or embroidered, then we have a team of staff available to contact via telephone (lines open 9am-5pm Mon-Fri) or via email on our contact page here.

The Process

There are many Printing methods available to us In House, to give you the best results for your particular needs and the type of garments you're considering. We have many years experience in the Industry and are able to advise you of the most suitable method for your particular Design and end use. Our focus is to do the best job we can so you are happy to recommend us and come back with repeat business. The various options are described below and you can also see some of our print proofs

Traditional Screen Printing

This is ideal for larger quantities 100 upwards and for up to 4 colours. Screen Set Up Charges apply. This process basically involves ink being applied through a stencil onto specific areas of your garment with one colour being printed at a time and is a process that has been used for over 1000 years.

Heat Transfer Screen Printing

Results in brighter, bolder colours, and sharper, smoother image definition producing highly accurate results. Transfer printing is a two step method, screen printing the transfer and then applying the Transfer to the clothing with the assistance of heat. With various steps in the process, this allows the checking and correction of the prints at every stage. This method is suitable for both smaller or larger quantities.

Screen Set Up Charges apply.

Heat Cut Transfer Printing

Is most suitable for smaller quantities up to 50 and in single colour, two colours can occasionally be used dependant on the design. If you think about the name and numbers on the back of a football shirt they are cut by machine from vinyl material and applied by a heat transfer press. We use this method a lot for putting web addresses, company names or individual names and numbers on the Back or Front of clothing. The Design or Text is permanently applied onto the garment and is very durable. On most fabrics it can be washed up to 60 degrees and above.

There are usually no ‘Set-Up’ charges with this method.
